Book Recommendation

My favorite book that I had enjoyed reading would be The Voyage of the Frog, by Gary Paulson, which I had also recently read as a book club book from previous blog posts.    

Genre: Fiction... an Adventure/Survival story    
      
     The main character, David Alspeth, goes to visit his ill Uncle in the beginning and his Uncle told him that when he passed away, he wanted David to go out to sea on the Frog and dump his ashes into the water where he could see no land and would be alone. David said he would, and would do anything for his Uncle. Afterwards, once his Uncle died, he sailed out to sea on the Frog and then when he got so far out that he could see no more land, he took his Uncle's ashes and dumped them into the water. Then a couple hours later before he could head back home, he was hit by a huge storm and swept farther out to sea. After the storm, David had lost most of his food supply and was running low on fresh water, and even worse, the Frog wouldn't work. He is lost and has to find a way to survive and get back home safely.     
     
     What I really liked about this book was how there was suspense when something would happen to David, and what he would do next. I love survival and adventure stories like this because they bring more action and feelings to the plot, in my opinion. I would say that people who definitely like to read survival and adventurous stories would enjoy to read this book and find it interesting. I enjoyed reading The Voyage of the Frog myself. I would Recommend this book and I think that you would really like this book, once again if you are a survival story/adventurous type of reader.

Theme

The Theme in my book is: never give up, even when you are in very tough situations. The main character David had to complete his uncle's wish. But then a big storm came and blew him off course, 300 miles out to sea, and lost where he was going. Most of his food supply was gone and fresh water was running low. He had also gotten injured but he stayed strong and kept the boat alive. He was inspired to never give up since the boat was given to him by his Uncle and he didn't want to lose it. Another reason that David never gave up was when the boat was flooding and he got the pump and started emptying the water into the sea. Even though it took him hours to do so and he was so weak, he never stopped and got the boat back to float. One more reason how David never gave up was when he ran into a vessel and they offered him a ride back home. David didn't want to stop there and just leave the boat, he was going to ride it back because he didn't want to disappoint his Uncle.

Book Clubs

My current book club book is The Voyage of the Frog and the character who I would personally like to meet is David Alspeth, who is fourteen years old. This is because he was about to go on a voyage out to sea and couldn't stop thinking about his Uncle Owen who had recently passed away. His Uncle's wish to him was to take his ashes out to sea on the Frog, (name of the boat) and leave his ashes in the water where they could not see any land and be alone. I would ask him if he thought the boat had any powers that his Uncle Owen could power to help him accomplish this wish. David wouldn't let him down and wouldn't let anything get in his way. Another reason I would like to meet David is because since now the Frog was destroyed from the storm after he dropped the ashes in the sea, if he survives, which I predict he will, I would ask him how he dealt with the sea and not being anywhere near land. Also how his food was almost gone and was running out of fresh water after it was under water for hours. I think that would be interesting. David stands out to me because he has a lot of courage that he'll be going out to sea to accomplish his Uncle's wish on his own and that he won't let anything stop him. He is really brave since he didn't complain at all that he had to go out to sea on his own to dump the ashes, but he kept his respect and did what his Uncle Owen asked him since David would do anything that he would ask him to do.

Favorite Character

My favorite character in literature is Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings because he is really brave by protecting the powerful and most dangerous ring from the evil in the harshest land and traveled far from his home just to get where he needed to go, sometimes with only one person. He wouldn't run away from a fight and he never gave up which kept the book suspenseful and always in action. In the beginning, he was nervous because he soon became the person who would have to hold the power of the ring and knew he was the main target of the evil side. In the middle of the book, Frodo became aware of how this all worked and took full responsibility and found that the only thing that destroyed the ring was the lava that laid inside the volcano which was on the evil side's territory. By the end of the book, he wasn't afraid at all and climbed up the volcano after sneaking into the territory with his friend Sam who aided him. This is another reason how the braveness and courage of Frodo Baggins kept the book alive and in action.
      Events that led to Frodo's change is that he would usually visit his friend Gandalf and he would tell Frodo what has been happening and whats important that he should do. That lead Frodo to recognize how his life was nearly in the evil side's hands and so he started to make careful choices. I don't think I can relate to Frodo though because he goes on journeys that a regular person today wouldn't go on, and he would fight or meet characters that are not real in today's world.

My favorite book is Numbers by Rachel Ward because it is full of suspense and action and also has smooth flowing sentences that are easy to read.

Genres of books I prefer to read are Fantasy, Realistic fiction, or Historical Fiction.

I just finished my book which is called Numbers and takes place in a small town near London. It is about a girl named Jem who had recently lost her mother and then she could see people's exact date of their death. Jem tries to avoid people since they don't really like her because they think she is strange and clueless of what's happening. Jem decided to take a chance one day by finding this guy named Spider who is similar to Jem because when they went to his Grandmother's house, Jem found out that Spider's Grandmother had the same exact conflict that Jem had with seeing the numbers. They had a conversation about it when Spider was out of the room because they knew he would start to get worried about it a lot. One day later, Jem and Spider went on a trip to London where they would then meet at a place called the London eye which was near a small theme park. All of a sudden, Jem started looking into people's eyes and started to see their date of death and that date was that very day. She wanted to yell to the people to run and get out of the area because she knew something bad was going to happen, but she couldn't because Spider would get curious as to how she knew something tragic was going to happen and she'd have to explain to him about her power. Moments later Jem decided to take Spider to a nearby bridge and suddenly there was a large explosion right where the people were standing. The people with the death dates had died and since the newscasters were out quickly, they caught two people wearing sweatshirts walking away from the scene. When Jem and Spider arrived back at his grandmothers home, they saw on the news that the police were then searching for them because they think that they are terrorists. They had to make a run for it and find somewhere safe to hide and not only that, Spider wanted an explanation as to how Jem knew about the tragic event. Spider's grandmother made them both leave her behind since she thought she'd be alright.
